Scheduled to run until November 24 at Nathan Benderson Park, this flagship event will see the debut of the 100m sprint at the level after replacing the usual 200m races. 2024 ICF Saratosa Event recap

The Long-distance races were truly as electric, with NSP athletes delivering incredible performances across all divisions!

Women’s Masters 50+ Katerina Trdlova paddled her Ninja to perfection, earning the gold medal in a thrilling race. Her strategic pacing and relentless effort were key to her victory, finishing ahead of her competitions by almost 22 seconds, proving once again why she is one of the top competitors in the world.

Katerina’s results are a testament to her hard work, love and dedication to the sport, showcasing the competitive edge NSP athletes bring to every race.

Claudia Postiglione had an incredible week of paddling seeing her with a top 4 finish for Long-distance, along with fellow NSP teammate Alexia Soto finishing in a close 5th. Claudia also grabbed an epic Bronze medal in the 100m Junior Women Sprints, with only .20 or a second splitting 2nd and 3rd position. The new sprint distance certainly dialled up the entertainment!

The elite Mens Sprints had Christian Andersen in lane 6 fighting it out in the absolutely stacked field of 100 metres of grit with a 5th place finish against an in-form Andrii Kraitor. Christian Followed up his sprint placing with another 5th in the Technical Mens final, along with NSP Team mate Antonio Morillo in 8th position

We saw a breakout performance from Tahiti’s Iloha Eychenne, who in her first ever international SUP race finished 6th in World’s, showing that she is one to look out for in years to come. Jenny Kalmbach in her 3rd Long-distance race in the last two years come in 10th with a solid performance.

NSP couldn’t be prouder to support such an inspiring athletes. Their dedication and hard work are a testament to what’s possible with talent, passion, and the right team behind you. It’s been a monumental year for all of us, and these are just the beginnings of what we know will be long and celebrated careers.

DUNA GORDILLO WINS OVERALL & SPRINT TITLE AT BUSAN,
CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN CONQUERS SPRINTS AT BUSAN SUP OPEN 2024

The Busan SUP Open is the flagship stop on the 2024 APP World Tour, that is now in its 3rd year and runs from the 4th – 6th October as a well-established legacy event.

Check out the sprint recap from Saturday below and explore the rankings and results as you scroll down:

Day 1 Sprints

Sprint Highlights

Our own Duna Gordillo came into the Busan SUP Open as a favourite and certainly did not disappoint in Saturday’s sprint action, dominating from the very beginning to take a well-deserved victory.

With fierce competition from fellow compatriot Laura Quetglas, but also some of Japan’s fastest Ladies, Hirata Otono and Baba Natsumi and not forgetting the ever-improving Su Jeong Lim who looks more comfortable than ever in her new home in Busan, Duna was able to maintain her composure and cross the line in first, continuing her winning streak on the APP World Tour.

From the outset, Danish powerhouse Christian Andersen looked dominant, calm and confidant: the fastest off the start and the most comfortable at navigating the surf legs to advance all the way through to the Finals, where Christian put on his best performance of the day, taking a clear lead off the start in a stacked final that featured Shuri ‘Shrimpy’ Araki from Japan. Aaron Sanchez and Antonio Morillo, both from Spain.

An impressive opening day for the young Dane who has his sights set on what would be a deserved and maiden event victory here on the APP World Tour.

NSP Cheetah Pro Carbon

Both Duna and Christian raced the new NSP Cheetah Pro Carbon, an Alain Teurquetil design created specifically for shorter format racing on the tour.

Day 2 Long Distance

Long Distance highlights

Duna Gordillo lived up to her headline position at the 2024 Busan SUP Open by taking victory in the distance race and thus overall for the Championship event.

Leading off the start, she put together a smart race and maintained her lead throughout to take victory.

This means Duna goes into the 2025 season as #1 seed following this Championship win with the target on her back for the leading ladies on the APP World Tour.

With Christian in 1st at the sprints and Shuri Araki in 2nd, the Long Distance winner was going to take the overall win. And so Shuri managed to separate himself from the pack almost immediately, consistently growing his lead through the 9km race to take the victory.

And while Shrimpy and Christian were tied for points, the tiebreaker for this event was established as the distance, awarding the overall win to Shrimpy, while validating Christian’s position as one of the very best and well-rounded paddlers in the world.

Both Duna and Christian raced the NSP Carolina Pro Carbon, the allround winning tool for 90% of all racing conditions that a competitive stand-up paddle racer encounters. Read more!

Highlights Day 5

Duna brings home Technical Race Gold

Day two of the 2024 ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship was a standout for Duna Gordillo at Copenhagen’s Amager Strandpark, where she claimed the Gold Medal in the women’s Technical Race. With ideal conditions and light winds, the three kilometer course presented a challenging mix of speed and technical skill, featuring numerous buoy turns.

At just 21 years old, Gordillo has consistently proven her prowess on the water, battling alongside Spanish teammate Esperanza Barreras in previous races. Today, their rivalry intensified as they both vied for the top spot. In a tightly contested race, Gordillo showcased her strategic edge and determination, making her move to secure victory seconds ahead of Barreras, the two time defending champion! Duna’s remarkable performance not only highlights her talent but also reinforces Spain’s strength in the sport. Go Team NSP!

Juniors find the podium

The Junior Technical Finals kicked off earlier in the day, with conditions mirroring those of the later races. Alexia Soto shone brightly in the Junior Women’s final, delivering a flawless performance. Her mastery of the tight buoy turns and powerful strokes saw her dominate the field, marking her as one of the sport’s rising stars. Hot on her heels, fellow Spaniard Luis Peroti followed up with an impressive 2nd place in the Junior Men’s final, further cementing Spain’s stronghold in the event. Both Soto and Peroti displayed remarkable talent and tenacity, leaving no doubt that the future of Spanish SUP racing is in good hands.

NSP Mens Trio secure top 10 Finish

‘The Men‘s Technical Final saw NSP’s Antonio Morillo (Spain), Christian Anderson (Denmark), and Blue Ewer (Great Britain) standing strong against a stacked field. Morillo, with a determined charge, crossed the line in 5th, while Christian on home soil was backed by a passionate local crowd, finished 6th. Blue Ewer rounded out the top seven, delivering a performance full of grit and focus. With the worlds best talent on all sides, the trio showcased what it means to dig deep and represent NSP at the highest level of competition throughout the world championships and we look forward to the remaining disciplines this week still to come!! Keep your eyes peeled on the upcoming sprint and long distance events in the coming days as we are going to see some more fireworks on the water!

But back to Duna;  claiming her first medal in the SUP Technical Race for Spain. The 21-year-old has consistently battled for medals with her teammate Esperanza Barreras (ESP) in the Distance Race, but today the pair battled it out for the Gold Medal in the Technical Race. It was tight throughout the race between the two, as well as with Mariecarmen Rivera (PUR), but Gordillo managed to get the jump on the final stretch and win 3 seconds ahead of Barreras, the back-to-back defending champion, with Rivera another 3 seconds behind in third and Anais Guyomarch (FRA) a more distant fourth.

“I can’t believe it… With Espe (Ed: Barreras), we always compete together and finally whoever wins, wins. But yes, I like so much to compete with Espe and she is a strong woman. For me, Team Spain is always the best. We never win a World Cup but I think this is the year. We’re looking forward to the team relay tomorrow.”

Christian Andersen wins both Long Distance and Technical at Skrea Strand Paddle Race, Sweden

Skrea Strand, near Falkenberg on Sweden’s west coast, is a favourite beach known for its soft, golden sand and clear waters. Spanning two kilometres, it offers cafés, restaurants, and camping areas, making it perfect for a day trip or extended stay. The beach is also the venue for the Skrea Strand Paddle, hosting the Swedish SUP Championships with a €3,000 prize and ICF ranking:

“The 2024 edition of the Skrea Strand Paddle Race (ICF Qualifier) was yet again an awesome event! The conditions were stormy all weekend, but the organizers did a great job at changing the race courses to make it safe and fun for everyone.”

“On Day One we held the technical races. It was a short and intense race course with a beach run. Small waves and a lot of wind. We had two qualifying heats, six advances to the 12-man final. I had a great start in the final and was able to maintain a good lead for the rest of the race to take the win.”

“On Day Two we had the long-distance race. It was even more windy and the conditions were tough. It was an 8km race that kicked off on the Ocean, led onto a river course and ended in the ocean to finish things off. Linus, Kjell and I stayed together for the first 2km. I made a move in the river however and managed to get a small lead, gradually maintaining and extending it up until the finish where I took the win again on Day Two.”

“Overall a great weekend of racing. Definitely one of my favourite events of the year!”

Marta Apanasewicz claims Sprint, Technical title and MVP at Planet Baltic 2024

Great things happen when nations unite to elevate the playing field. The Planet Baltic SUP Race 2024, Poland’s longest-running open sea SUP race event was held on 2-4 August in Kołobrzeg. Lucie Raab and Peter Cemper came over in 2023, met with Marcin Koc, founder and race director of Baltic SUP and their collaboration took seed. Lucie and Petr built up SUP in the Czech Republic, and shared a lot of ideas with Marcin from Poland, having a virtually similar intuition on how to develop the different disciplines of Ocean Endurance.

So this year especially was a fully-fledged international event, rapidly gaining momentum with athletes from around the world traveling to the Baltic Sea to compete in Sprints, Long Distance, Technical and the MVP, which a certain someone won two times in a row:

“This is in my homespot, at sea where we raced. That’s two things making this event close to my heart. The Sea was flat kind of flat for this time of the year, but we made it work to our advantage anyway, and I won!”
Marta Apanasewicz

The conditions on both days were mostly flat and only the wakes of the packed finals created some waves. Unfortunately, I made a mistake at the Sprint start which is crucial on the short 200m distance. In the Tech Race one of my fellow competitors rammed my board at the second buoy causing me to fall and lose valuable positions. Win some & lose some
Maui Sach

Mikolaj Majdan took his brand-new NSP Ninja Pro Carbon to the event, and managed to snatch 2nd place in the sprints and 3rd in the Long Distance, vowing to reclaim the MVP title from the year before.

Jake Linley grabs podium finish at Stand-Up-For-The-Lake 2024

A strong field of paddlers in both the male and female divisions, because the Canadian crew always brings stiff competition.

When the dust settled, Jake scored 3rd in the six-mile Long Distance ($250 prize) and another 3rd place in the sprint races.

“I stuck to my game plan of keeping the leaders in sight and attempted to maintain a strong pace in the heat and humid Very hot and humid on lake Champlain, not much in the way of wind with only a few bumps from boat traffic made for a very hot, difficult distance race followed by the sprint races.”
Jake Linley

NSP Puma Pro Carbon

“The Puma performed well in the sprints although the shallow water depth created tricky conditions for all paddlers.”

Jake Linley wins Waterman Eco-Challenge 2024

658 Athletes participated with a total of 125 well-known paddlers. The event is built around creating awareness for skin cancer, and like your typical grass-routs event, fun and dynamic activities bring communities together in a huge way to educate and raise awareness. The organizers had set up several events:

5K Road Race – Walk or Run
1 Mile Swim
2.4 Mile Distance Swim
3 Mile Paddle SUP or Prone
6 Mile Distance Paddle SUP or Prone
Eco-Challenger – 5K +1M Swim + 3M Paddle
Ultimate Challenger – 5K + 2.4M Swim + 6M Paddle

Jake went for the 6-Mile Distance Paddle, and snatched 1st place from the rest of the field:

“The race took place at Roger Wheeler State Beach in Narragansett, Rhode Island. The competition was a strong field of male and female prone and stand
up paddlers. Conditions were difficult as there was a fair amount of wind, cross chop and boat wake activity. The course ran parallel to the wind, wave, wake and chop direction forcing paddlers to paddle on one side for the two longer legs of the 6-mile course.”

VIMEO EMBED FROM THE EVENT

NSP Puma Pro Carbon

“So as a beach racer, my Puma went fast going into the wind and handled  the wonky chop and wakes of the many boats and paddlers. I honestly think there were well over a hundred paddlers on the water at any given time between the two races, so a paddling speed of 4.6 mph (7.5kmh) was fine with me. I won the event last year and was glad to pull it off this year as well.”

Blue Ewer vanquishes Battle Of the Bay ’24

The UK “Battle of the Bay” (not to be confused with the previous BOB at Friar’s Cliff a few weeks back where Blue won the Technical) was its usual standard with a turnout of world-class paddlers. Our very Blue Ewer did what he does best and made his way through the tough long-distance race resulting in a 2nd place finish. With an equipment change for the technical race, Blue chose to go with his brand new NSP Cheetah which is a great Sprint weapon, as demonstrated at the ICF event last year.

This decision saw Blue have the edge and finished in 1st place with a sprinting finish with all 3 paddlers reaching the shores within seconds of each other with pure grit and determination. Overall Blue took out all 3 Sup race disciplines in phenomenal fashion proving why he is one of UK’s top paddlers along with being in the top 10 worldwide.

Long Distance Race
Set out in the beautiful Falmouth Bay, the distance course is expected to be 10 km long. Race fleets start and finish at the beach, completing two laps of the 5 km course. The Challenge Tour will complete a single lap of a 5 km distance course to experience what racing is all about.

Technical Race
Using heats to a final format, expect short and fast technical racing with multiple turns and a beach start. Each lap will include a running transition around a flag on the beach. The Technical Race will be 1.5km in total length, split over multiple laps.

Tech Sprints
Short and fast racing right off the beach with a gated turn providing plenty of action in this heat to a final format. The course will be a beach start paddling out 75m to a gated turn where paddlers can choose to turn left and right. The finish is back at the beach, running through the finish flags. Competitors will compete in 2 heats, progressing to a final.

Jake Linley conquers Charles Island’s Long Distance 2nd year in a row

The Long Course consists of a beach start, paddle around Charles Island, back to shore, one beach turn, back to water (buoys have to be adjusted to wind), three near-shore technical turns (red, white, blue) followed by a beach finish.
The total distance is 5 miles, and while the coastline along Milford is scenic, athletes have to deal with the waves, beach break and other competitors, demanding 50 minutes of pure focus!

“The Puma performed well in the distance race and handled the minor side chop and bumps well. I chose the Puma mainly due to the Sprint Races that followed the distance race.
It was fast off the beach starts and easily hit up to speed.”

“Not having had it for long I’m still figuring out the sweet spot for buoy turns but was happy to stay upright through all five heats of the sprints and take the overall victory.”

Battle of the bay

The Battle of the Bay returns to the 2024 GBSUP National series and is bigger and better than ever. It’s all happening on June 8th at the beautiful Avon Beach in Friars Cliff, Christchurch.

The BP Battle of the Bay featured two races, counting towards the overall event score and series points.

  • Distance race (4 laps, 8-9km): This longer course spans four laps along the local coastline. Challenge Tour paddlers will do two laps (4-4.5km) then start with a beach run where paddlers carry their boards into the water and end with a short beach run at the finish (subject to change based on beach conditions). In this course, the paddlers will pass through a gate at the start of each lap and finish.
  • Technical Race (Multi-lap course): Challenge tour paddlers to follow the same course as a distance race but with a shorter distance. The course includes both left and right turns and finishes with a short beach run (subject to beach conditions).

Another full-on weekend of race for NSP the Barcelona SUP fest was off with a bang!
The BCN ran over the weekend which had a mixed bag of results from NSP.

Starting the weekend with the 12km long distance race had some testing wild and wooly conditions. The elements came from all directions, the currents, swell, side chop, and wind swirled making it a tough ocean race for all competitors. NSP had some great results amongst the 125 paddlers and fighting hard the entire way amongst a solid running pack once again was UK paddler Blue Ewer who came in 7th, Christian Anderson 13th, Antonio Morillo 17th, and Titouan Puyo in 23rd.

Vincent Guillaume took out the Kahuna Masters and Salva Mora took out the Master men long distance.

The women’s long-distance had its usual classic rivalries, however once again Iona Rivet found the podium in 5th place with an impressive performance in tough conditions, her fellow nsp paddler Laura Quetglas coming in at 13th, Claudia Postiglione 14th and Sveva Sabato in 15th and Erica Revil in 19th.

The second day of the event was the technical races in all brackets which NSP had some success. The U18 Technical event saw Claudia Postiglione 1st and Alexia Soto 2nd. Sergio Cantoral placed 3rd overall in the Open Mens. Claudia Postiglione took out the U18 women’s along with fellow NSP teammate Alexia Soto in 2nd and Ines Blin in 3rd place stacking out the podium with NSP.

U18 mens had Ivan Puente v Ivan Esteve for the top spot and had a close fight the whole race with each buoy turn the gap grew little by little which was a close call for a foot race finish!

The Lake Rocks festival had a lot to offer with a field of over 300 paddlers from 21 countries coming to Faak Lake for the Alps Trophy which included €12,000 up for grabs across both the Long-distance and ICF Technical races in their respective categories.

The opening paddle day saw Blue Ewer on an impressive pace taking out 4th  in the long-distance event which was an exciting start because he kept this same momentum, rolling into the Technical where he also clinched another 4th to see him standing on the podium in top 4 overall. Blue rode the Cheetah in the technical race which gave him both the looseness to turn at speed at a buoy yet maintained extra stability paddling at speed to give him an edge while the young man “Ben Leon” took out 9th in U16 category.

Sveva Sabato who is an incredible talent placed in 9th in the open Women’s speed race and took out the U16 final placing 1st.  Claudia Postiglione paddled incredibly well over the weekend, 2nd in both the Technical and Speed Races, which saw her placing to 2nd overall for the whole event standing on the podium once again while Erica Revil placed in 9th from Open Women.

Euro Tour Sancti Petri Sup Race stop #3 had a different playing field compared to the Lake Faak event! The Sancti Petri is held in the beautiful open ocean at Atenas Playa in the beautiful beach of La Barrosa.  The long-distance women’s race saw one of the best performances of the event and it was from our very own Duna Gordillo, she was the only one who kept close to the winner the entire race, on a fine performance finishing 2nd, not far behind in 4th was our Iona Rivet along with fellow NSP rider Bianca Toncelli 8th in the open women’s which brought her up to take out the U16 podium.

The Men’s Long distance race had Antonia Morillo place 7th along with Titouan Puyo back into the top 10 finishing 10th and Christian Anderson’s surprise finish at 16th.  Keep an eye out for the next leg of the Euro Tour which will see our team into Barcelona with a common goal of hitting the podium!

Claudia secures 2nd and Sveva 3rd in the Junior category, with Iona Rivet and Blue Ewer taking 5th and 6th at The Water Festival, Italy

The Go Water Festival takes place in Mondello, an idyllic beach neighborhood in Palermo, Sicily, showcased a range of water sports, including the Stand Up Paddle Elite races and a part of the 2024 Euro Tour.

With Titouan Puyo, Iona Rivet, Blue Ewer, and Claudia Postiglione competing, we expected a decent amount of podium space for NSP.

In the men’s race, British paddler Blue Ewer made an impressive showing, navigating the course with precision and finishing strong among a competitive field of international athletes securing himself 6th! The difference between 2nd and 6th was .02 of a second.

French paddler Titouan Puyo initially set a strong pace, but struggled to keep up with the younger generation of racers. A rib injury prevented Titouan from training since the ICF Worlds. Despite this setback, Puyo displayed his usual tenacity on the water and cruised his way into an impressive 16th amongst the world’s best despite his injury.

In the women’s race, French paddler Iona Rivet made her mark by paddling solo for much of the competition, securing a notable 5th-place finish in her debut International race of the season. Italian paddler and junior world champion Claudia Posiglione also showcased her endurance, consistently trailing the leading pack. Ultimately Claudia proved her prowess on the water by finishing 7th along with fellow Junior paddler Sveva, who finished 9th Overall, with a 3rd place in the junior category.

Bodie Von Allmen claims third place at Carolina’s Cup Graveyard Race

The 13th Annual Carolina Cup was held last week, filled to the brim with clinics, meet’n greets, demos, and five monumental races. The Graveyard being the big dog in the event, considered by paddle athletes to be one of the major races to compete in. Other races include Saturday’s 3.5-mile Harbor Island Recreational race, a 6.5-mile Money Island Open Race, and a friendly race for kids only.

Back in 2023, the previous edition of the Carolina Cup was elevated to 7-Star status – the highest ranking and one of only three races in the world to attain the lucky 7.

This is a beach start and finish. This is a 12.6-13.2-mile ocean- and flatwater race, started on the ocean side of the Blockade Runner Beach Resort. Next, athletes head out through the surf, downwind to the inlet, into the inland waterways and ICWW around Wrightsville Beach.

There are two inlets, one of which requires racers to surf waves in through the inlet, along with some boat traffic and local swell. The ocean section of the race will be the downwind section, if the weather cooperates.

Usually, the organizer will change the direction of the race to optimize the conditions for a fast, fun, challenging race. Your mileage depends on the line you take and has been controversial in the past. This Carolina Cup Graveyard Race is for elite paddlers with the skill and fitness to complete this endurance challenge.

The race is called The Graveyard, because depending on your fitness level, experience and swell, it will take between 2 and 3.5 hours to complete the course. If not for the competition, it is a great way to push your limits and benchmark yourself in a variety of conditions against some of the best paddlers in the world.

The rulebook says all athletes must finish the half-way mark within two hours, and there is a five-hour limit to complete the race.

In the end, water woman pur sang Jenny Kalmbach finished 1st in the women’s segment and Bodie von Allmen snatched the last piece of podium space with a 3rd place:

Bodie von Allmen places 3rd at Dana Ocean Challenge

The Dana Ocean Challenge is a 10-mile open water race located in Dana Point, Southern California. This race is a 2024 USA Ocean Racing Team Qualifier.

Bodie van Allmen is an NSP Teamrider from Oregon, USA. The 2024 Dana Ocean Challenge is organized by the fine people of the Dana Outrigger Canoe Club.

We saw you raced your Carolina 20.5 – how did that work out?
The Carolina is my favourite all-around board and works in any conditions so not surprisingly, it worked very well milking any bump that was out there.

What was your average paddling speed?
I did not have my GPS but I probably averaged about 6 to 6.5 mph

How many paddlers participated you reckon?
There were about 100 total participants on the 5-mile short course.

Are you going to attend next year’s edition?
I have not planned next season out yet but as long as there is nothing else conflicting, I’ll be back down next year.

What’s next for you?

I will be coming back down to SoCal next weekend for the Adler Paddler Race in Long Beach on March 24th. It’s going to be a flat water race so I will be using my Ninja.
