BIO
Ted Schatz is a Pacific Northwest board rider. Residing in Vancouver Washington on the Columbia River. The great thing about living in the Pacific Northwest is that in just a 1-2 hour drive in any direction, you’re in a totally different atmosphere. From the Columbia River Gorge and Hood river to the Washington and Oregon Coast, to the high deserts of Bend Oregon and into the mountains. It is truly an area for outdoor lovers.
Now in his 40’s, Ted has been a board-sports enthusiast since the age of 8 when he got his first skateboard. At 10 his super radical windsurfing uncle introduced him to snowboarding. At 20 Ted and his best friend dropped out of college, packed up a pickup truck and moved to Breckenridge Colorado to chase professional snowboarding dreams. However, the ocean just kept calling Ted back from the mountains. After some significant injuries Ted decided that the snowboarding life was not meant to be. So back to school it was.
During his undergraduate years in College, Ted took up the sport of rowing and while paddling on the water, Ted had an epiphany. Much like Ricky Bobby, Ted wanted to go fast. Ted earned a Master’s degree in Kinesiology and considers himself a true movement/ exercise science nerd. He teaches at two local Community Colleges along with running the outdoor recreation program at one of them.
A friend introduced him to SUP after college to stay fit for surfing. As with many things in his life, there is no halfway. Once this sport was discovered it was all in. 7+ years later he is still loving it. Training, racing, down-winding, surfing and joining his friends who are known for chasing boats around in an attempt to surf the wakes produced on their SUP race boards. Next up on the agenda of learning… Wingfoiling aka wingdinging….
