BIO
Pongpat Patumsuwon – nicknamed Tou – has been a competitive SUP rider for less than two years but has already made a name for himself in the local community as one of Thailand’s top racers.
Tou has won multiple races in both the over-40 Masters and open categories for long-distance, technical, and sprint in Thailand, and is looking forward to entering more international races.
Though he is relatively new to SUP racing, he has long been committed to physical excellence and made a name for himself as a long-distance runner in Thailand. In 2019, he joined Thailand’s most famous rock star, Artiwara ‘Toon’ Kongmalai, on a two-month charity run up the entire length of Thailand. To make things even more challenging, Pongpat spent much of that time holding a video camera. As a cinematographer, his role was to capture the many iconic moments of the charity run that won the hearts of millions of Thais.
During the pandemic, when he was unable to work as a cinematographer/actor while the world shut down, Tou spent hours on the canals near his house on his first NSP racing board, recognizing the full-body benefits of paddling.
When a friend in the community saw how quickly he was progressing, she suggested he enter a race in Kanchanaburi in February of 2022. From that moment, was hooked.
On most days, Tou is training with his son Martin Patumsuwon after work/school on the waters of Bangkok’s River of Kings – the Chao Phraya.
Tou, known for his friendly and outgoing personality, will be competing in all of the Masters races and looks forward to meeting other racers in the global SUP community at the upcoming 2023 ICF World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.
